Poor dental health can lead to a host of medical problems. But, many people simply can't afford treatment. Dr. Michael Kincaid is one of 220 local dentists who donate their services to help the financially challenged elderly and disabled receive free dental care. It's through the non-profit organization EODDS, or Eastern Oklahoma Donated Dental Services. "Four years ago, this was a pilot program that we started," he says. "And, this year, we will be doing close to one and a half million dollars worth of dentistry."
That's a lot of charity. Many seniors, on fixed incomes, find it very difficult to afford dental care. So, that's when EODDS is a lifesaver. This year, so far, eight hundred people have been helped.

Dr. Kincaid calls the whole experience a feel good story. He remembers one patient he treated who was a double amputee with terminal cancer.
"She lived six months. But, after we delivered the dental care to here, she was actually able to eat. She was able to chew her food and that probably was the most rewarding case I had."
Participating dentists donate their time, expertise and their supplies. And, thanks to funding from these and other foundations, EODDS can pay for laboratory costs and more expensive materials, such as dentures, crowns and bridges.
The dentists in EODDS like Dr. Kincaid are giving free dental care because they want to. There is no hidden agenda, except to put a smile on everyone's face.
"The response we've had in the last four years and the result that we're getting from the services that we're providing, it's just wonderful."
EODDS currently has 18-hundred people on its waiting list. But, if you qualify and would like more information or would like to donate, call 742-5544.
