Drillers Lose All-Star Catcher with Season Ending Injury

Posted: Updated:

Wilin Rosario, the Tulsa Drillers Texas League All-Star catcher will miss the rest of this season with a torn ACL in his right knee.

Rosario suffered the season-ending injury in last Tuesday night's game in Springdale, Arkansas against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.  His knee buckled while he was making a throw during a run down between second and third base.

The 21-year-old native of the Dominican Republic was having his best season as a professional baseball player. He was hitting .285 with 19 home runs and 52 runs batted in while playing in 73 games.  He had just been named the Texas League "Player of the Month" for July after hitting .314 with nine home runs and 25 RBI's in 18 games.

He is Tulsa's team leader in home runs, RBI's and slugging percentage.  The catcher has also thrown out nearly 40% of attempted base stealers.

Rosario has been replaced in the Drillers lineup by catcher Jordan Pacheco from Single A Modesto.
