Earlier this summer, Alex Gonzalez and Brandon King were selected in the Major League Baseball draft, but both turned down MLB contracts and will instead play college ball in Tulsa.
Gonzalez was picked in the eleventh round while King was taken in the 16th round -- both by the Baltimore Orioles. But, neither had signed a contract by Monday's midnight deadline.
Gonzalez is an incoming freshman. As a senior at Boca Raton High School, he went 4-and-6 in 14 starts with a 2.48 earned run average, striking out 69 batters in 65 innings. He had eight complete games.
King comes to Oral Roberts from Fresno City College, where as a sophomore, he batted .370 with eight home runs and 31 runs batted in, earning the Central Valley Conference's MVP award.
ORU finished 36-and-27 last season, winning the Summit League tournament title and advancing to the NCAA Norman Regional.
