Razorbacks Edge FIU, 1-0 In Season Opener

Posted: Updated:

The Arkansas soccer team earned a 1-0 victory in its season opener Sunday at home against Florida International.

Sophomore Allie Chandler provided the game's only scoring in the 31st minute with a blast from 25 yards out.

Arkansas had a 20-10 advantage in shots and 10-7 in shots on goal. Britni Williams spent all 90 minutes in goal for the Razorbacks, stopping all seven shots she faced.

Arkansas head coach Erin Aubry credits the team's hard work over the summer on its improved play.

"This is the most fit our players have been," says Aubry. "We have improved team chemistry this year. FIU is a scrappy team. They won their conference last year. They exposed us in some areas and we'll be able to learn from that."

This is the fourth straight season the Razorbacks have won their season opener. They'll now turn their attention to a five-game road trip that starts Friday at Stephen F. Austin.
