The Oral Roberts volleyball team opened the 2010 season with a hard-fought, five-set victory over Lamar Friday morning at the Texas-Pan American Invitational.

The Golden Eagles dropped the first set 25-16, but rebounded to win 25-15 and 25-17 in the second and third sets. Lamar forced a fifth set, but ORU was able to edge the Cardinals 15-13 in the deciding set to win.

Elizabeth McVicker led the Golden Eagles with 17 kills. Olivia Ophus and Tatum Fredeen were also in double digits with ten kills each. Laura Taylor and Anna Rossi nearly evenly split the assists with 29 and 24, respectively.

Cassidy Holmes had a team-leading 30 digs.

Tina Hobbs led the Cardinals (0-1) with 14 kills.

The Golden Eagles play again this afternoon against Idaho State and will play host Texas-Pan American Saturday at 1 p.m.
