Tulsa -
For the first time in eight years, a major league baseball team will play in Tulsa as the Colorado Rockies will play the Tulsa Drillers in March.
The Drillers' parent club will visit Tulsa March 30th in a game at ONEOK Field for a 6:05 p.m. start.
It will be the second time the Rockies have played in Tulsa, but first since the opening of the new downtown stadium. The two teams faced each other before the beginning of the 2003 season to celebrate the new affiliation between the teams.
The March 30th exhibition game will feature the full Rockies team, including MVP candidate Carlos Gonzalez, Todd Helton and other former Drillers who are now stars in the big leagues like Troy Tulowitzki, Ian Stewart, Seth Smith, Dexter Fowler, Ryan Spilborghs, Ubaldo Jimenez and Jeff Francis.
The Rockies will follow the exhibition with their 2011 regular season opener at Coors Field two days later.
"We are thrilled to be able to host the Rockies at ONEOK Field," said Drillers General Manager Mike Melega. "Colorado is one of the most exciting and entertaining teams in Major League Baseball, and we are proud of the fact that so many former Drillers are on the team's roster. This game presents a convenient opportunity for fans to watch major league stars in action."
Tickets will go on sale to the general public before the end of the year. 2011 Drillers season ticket holders will have the first option to buy tickets.
