Tulsa Wins Mayor's Cup With Rout of ORU

Tulsa erased an eight-point first half deficit Tuesday with a huge second half in taking the annual Mayor's Cup game with crosstown rival Oral Roberts 83-68 at the Reynolds Center.

ORU (0-2) led 28-20 after a three-pointer by Kyron Stokes with five minutes left in the first half and was ahead 36-29 at halftime.

But, Tulsa (1-1) scored the first ten points of the second half, taking the lead on Justin Hurtt's 3-pointer with 18 minutes to play.

Warren Niles buried a 3-pointer a few minutes later to bring ORU even at 41-41 and it was a 47-46 lead for Tulsa when the Golden Hurricane went on a 13-6 run to push the lead to double digits on another trey by Hurtt with just under five minutes to play.

The lead grew to as many as 18 points late in the game.

Leading the way for Tulsa was Steven Idlet, who scored 20 points. Hurtt added 19, Jordan Clarkson had 17 and Scottie Haralson chipped in 13.

Dominique Morrison led Oral Roberts with 19 while Niles added 14.

Tuesday's game was part of ESPN's 24 Hours of College Basketball and tipped off at 11 a.m.

Next up for Tulsa is Friday's home game against Missouri State at 7 p.m. Oral Roberts plays Saturday at home against Indiana State.
