ORU Women Upset At UMKC

Posted: Updated:

After running out to a 13-0 mark in conference play, Oral Roberts has now dropped two straight, including Monday night's 81-77 setback at UMKC.

The Golden Eagles (17-9 overall, 13-2 Summit League) lost despite holding the Kangaroos to just 37 percent shooting and out-rebounding UMKC 54-45. ORU also shot 20-of-30 at the free throw line.

So, what went wrong? Turnovers was one thing. ORU turned the ball over 18 times to just 12 for UMKC and the Kangaroos also knocked down eight 3-pointers.

UMKC (12-13, 7-7) jumped out to an early eleven point lead in the opening five minutes and ORU struggled to get back into the game, finally taking the lead on a Kevi Luper three-pointer with 15:30 remaining.

But, Ashli Hill's putback with just under a minute remaining pushed the Kangaroos back in front for good.

Luper led ORU with 20 points. Amber Carver had a standout game with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Jordan Pyle added 13 points and 11 rebounds and Savanna Buck scored 12 points.

Dayon Hall-Jones led UMKC with 16 points.

ORU next plays Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Centenary.
