Easy Ways To Save Money

Posted: Updated:

Did you know this is "America Saves Week"? All this week we're encouraged to start saving money. Now that the recession is over, more and more groups, like AmericaSavesWeek.org, are cropping up and encouraging Americans to once again start saving.

Want to keep more money in your wallet in 2011?  USNews.com has "7 Easy Ways to Save Hundreds of Dollars". They include:

  • Reviewing your auto, home and life insurance policies. Chances are your insurance rates have gone up and there are less expensive options out there.
  • Reassess your phone setup, which takes a big chunk of the budget. Maybe it's time to get rid of the home phone. Also, shop around for a less expensive cell phone plan.
  • Tune up your car and check your tires. That'll save money on gas, and a well maintained car is safer and could save you from expensive break-downs.
  • Unplug your appliances when they're not in use. It's one of the simplest ways to lower your electricity bill.
  • Seal windows and doors. Plugging the leaks throughout the house could reduce your heating bill by quite a bit.
