Oral Roberts' Alex Gonzalez needed only one collegiate start to catch the attention of the Summit League, which named the freshman the league's pitcher of the week Monday.
In his first outing in an ORU uniform, Gonzalez allowed just one earned run on seven hits in six innings against 16th-ranked Baylor. He also struck out four batters and walked only one.
The Golden Eagles held a 4-2 lead when Gonzalez left the game, but Baylor rallied for a 5-4 win in ten innings.
ORU is now 1-and-2 on the young season and will return to action Tuesday night in the home opener against Wichita State.
