TULSA — Steven Roundtree scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Oral Roberts to a 92-74 win over IUPUI, Thursday at Mabee Center. The victory, coupled with a loss by IPFW, clinches for ORU the No. 2 seed in next week's Summit League Tournament.
All five starters scored in double figures for ORU (16-14, 12-5).
Roundtree was 10-of-12 from the field and 7-of-8 from the line as the Golden Eagles (16-14 overall, 12-5 Summit) won their seventh straight game. He is the first ORU player in over four years to have 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds in the same game, and the first freshman to do so in seven years.
With the teams essentially playing for the No. 2 tournament seed, ORU took control early. The Golden Eagles shot 64.5 percent in the first half en route to a 17-point halftime lead.
The game featured 11 ties and lead changes in the first seven minutes before the Golden Eagles caught fire. Dominique Morrison and Warren Niles combined to score 10 straight points for a 24-19 lead with 10:01 left before halftime.
The Jaguars (17-13, 11-6) twice got within three points before ORU exploded. Five straight points by Morrison and four-in-a-row from Roundtree made it 37-27.
The Golden Eagles twice led by 12 before finishing strong in the final 82 seconds. A Niles layup made it 52-40 with 1:22 left, and Roundtree followed with a layup 40 seconds later for a 54-40 lead. Morrison drained a three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer and ORU led 57-40 at the break.
ORU stretched its lead to a game-high 21 points when a Niles layup made it 65-44 with 17:26 to play. The Jaguars never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Morrison supported Roundtree's career night with 21 points and five rebounds. Niles enjoyed a strong all-round game with 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Damen Bell-Holter scored 13 and grabbed eight rebounds while Roderick Pearson chipped in with 11 points.
The Golden Eagles shot 55.6 percent for the game, including 7-of-13 from three-point range. ORU was 15-of-19 from the free throw line and committed just eight turnovers, one off a season-low.
ORU dominated the Jags on the glass to the tune of a 40-23 advantage. The Golden Eagles grabbed 17 offensive rebounds (to 16 defensive rebounds for IUPUI) and scored 27 second-chance points.
Alex Young led IUPUI with 26 points as the Jaguars shot 45.6 percent from the field.
ORU wraps up the 2010-11 regular season when they host Western Illinois, 7:05 p.m., Saturday at Mabee Center.
