66ers Clinch First Round D-League Series

Posted: Updated:

The Tulsa 66'ers are heading to the second round of the NBA-Development League playoffs with a 2-0 series sweep of the Texas Legends.

Center Cole Aldrich tallied 17 points, four blocked shots and a season-high 18 rebounds, Elijah Millsap poured in a game-high 27 points and Jerome Dyson dished out a 66ers season-high 13 assists to lead the Tulsa 66ers to a 104-89 home court victory. Dyson also recorded 14 points to earn his first double-double of the season.  Millsap's point total marked the 12th time this season the rookie has surpassed the 20-point mark.

Also scoring in double figures for the 66ers was Ryan Reid with 11 and Garrett Williamson with 10.  Williamson also added four blocked shots in the contest.

Defensively, Tulsa turned in another dominant performance by holding the Legends to 32-87 (.368) shooting from the floor.  It marked the 24th time this season Tulsa has held its opponent to under 50 percent shooting.  The 66ers also totaled seven steals, led by Dyson with three thefts.

"As long as we continue to guard like we're guarding, we are going to give ourselves a chance every night," Tibbetts said.  "You have to give credit to our guys. They really competed and I thought they set the tone in that first quarter. We were really flying around and brought a lot of energy."

Tulsa, who led by as many as 26 in the game, tallied 28 assists as a team and shot 39-75 (.520) from the floor, including 8-16 (.500) from beyond the arc, to improve its record to 18-2 this season when shooting better than 50 percent.

"Dyson is doing a great job at the point guard position," Tibbetts said.  "For him to have 13 assists tonight and only record four turnovers, he made a lot of good reads. Guys feel a part of the game when we share the basketball."

Tulsa advances to the second round and will face the winner of the top-seeded Iowa Energy and seventh-seeded Utah Flash series, with dates and times to be announced at a later date.

"Our team should be excited because Texas is a really good team," 66ers head coach Nate Tibbetts said.  "We feel good about the win, but we know there is more work to be done.  Our guys have come with a workman's-type attitude all year and we have to continue with that."
