ORU Takes Twinbill Against Centenary

Oral Roberts has opened Summit League play with three straight victories, including a pair of wins Saturday against Centenary at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

ORU (14-11 overall, 3-0 Summit League) took the first game 7-1 and the second 2-0.

In the first game, Nick Baligod broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Joey Winiecki plated the eventual game-winner in the second with a two-out infield single that scored Brett Sowers, who had led off the inning with a double.

Centenary scored its only run in the top of the third on an RBI ground out by Matt Creamer.

Oral Roberts put the game away with a four-run fourth inning that included a bases loaded hit by pitch by Baligod and a bases-clearing double by Brandon King.

Drew Bowen (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, allowing one unearned run on one hit in five innings of work. Alec Smith pitched four scoreless innings for his first save of the year.

In the second game, Alex Gonzalez tossed a seven-inning shutout, allowing six hits while striking out three. The only scoring came on a double by Cam Schiller in the third and a Sowers RBI double in the fourth.

The four-game series will wrap up Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
