Oral Roberts signs Okla. basketball standout

Associated Press - April 20, 2011 5:35 PM ET

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A Tulsa Washington basketball standout has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Oral Roberts in the upcoming season.

ORU officials said Wednesday that 6-foot, 2-inch guard Korey Billbury is the second signee ever from the school, which has won 14 boys basketball state championships since 1973.

Coach Scott Sutton says Billbury's combination of competitiveness on the court and talent level gives him an opportunity to play right away as a freshman.

Billbury shot 52% from the field as a senior, including 46% from 3-point range.

During his junior season Billbury averaged 11.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals in 29 games.

He chose ORU after receiving offers from Northern Illinois, UTSA and others.
