
The University of Tulsa men's tennis team earned an easy 4-0 victory over East Carolina in the opening round of the Conference USA Men's Tennis Championship Friday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa.
The 36th-ranked Golden Hurricane earned the doubles point with Ashley Watling and Clifford Marsland defeating Jaroslav Horvath and Joran Vliegen 8-3 and the team of Marcelo Arevalo and Japie De Klerk beating Henrik Skalmerud and Stian Tvedt 8-5.
TU then picked up singles wins from Watling (6-2, 6-1 over Massimo Mannino), Tristan Jackson (6-2, 6-4 over Tvedt) and Alastair Barnes (6-1, 6-3 over Mario Martinez).
In unfinished matches, Arevalo was leading Horvath 6-3, 5-5, De Klerk was trailing Vliegen 6-4, 3-1, and Grant Ive was ahead of John Schmitt 6-1, 5-6.
Next up for the Golden Hurricane is Memphis in Saturday's semifinals beginning at noon.
