Drillers Split Doubleheader At Arkansas

Little Rock, AR -

Four pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Tulsa Drillers took game two of a doubleheader with Arkansas 1-0 Wednesday in Little Rock.

The Drillers dropped the opener 7-2 as Arkansas pounded out 11 hits, three from leadoff hitter Mike Trout. Luis Jimenez went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.

Tulsa got both of its runs off the bat of Tim Wheeling, who belted his fourth home run of the season in the third inning.

In the nightcap, Tulsa was limited to just two hits -- both from Darin Holcomb. But, the only run of the game was scored without the benefit of a hit.

In the fifth, Mike Daniel was hit by a pitch. A throwing error on a pickoff attempt allowed Daniel to move to second. He then proceeded to steal third, then came home on another failed pickoff attempt.

That's all the Drillers needed. Joey Williamson, Stephen Dodson, Joe Torres and Adam Jorgenson combined on the three-hit shutout. Dodson pitched the fifth inning to earn the win. Jorgenson tossed a perfect ninth to earn his fourth save.

With the split, Tulsa moved into sole possession of first place, a half game ahead of Northwest Arkansas, which lost to Springfield Wednesday.

The Drillers and Travelers wrap up their series Thursday night at 7:10 p.m.
