The University of Tulsa softball team earned win number 40 with a 9-0 win in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday at UTEP.

The Golden Hurricane (40-12) opened the day with a 2-0 shutout victory behind Aimee Creger, who allowed just two hits to improve to 21-and-2. Tulsa scored bookend runs in the first and seventh innings on RBI singles by Skylar Swanson and Caitlyn Everett.

In the second game, Tulsa pounded out 13 hits, including home runs from Lacey Middlebrooks and Kelly Chapman. Five TU players had at least two hits, led by Shelby Blanton's 3-for-3 effort.

Jordan Kinard picked up the win, allowing three hits to improve to 9-and-6.

Tulsa will wrap up the regular season Sunday when they close out the weekend series at UTEP at 1 p.m.

With a win and a loss by Houston to Central Florida, Tulsa would clinch the top seed in the upcoming Conference USA Tournament.
