The all-time leading scorer in Texas history is joining the coaching staff at the University of Tulsa.

TU head basketball coach Doug Wojcik announced the hiring of Terrence Rencher as an assistant on the Golden Hurricane staff.

Rencher, who has spent the past two seasons as an assistant at Texas State, replaces Andy Kohut, who Wojcik announced has left the team to pursue other interests.

Rencher was a four year starter at Texas from 1992 to 1995 and helped lead the Longhorns to three NCAA Tournament appearances. He finished his career with 2,306 points which still stands as the most scored by any Longhorn player and his 440 assists rank sixth on the school's all-time list.

He went on to play one season in the NBA with Miami and Phoenix, appearing in 36 games, averaging 2.9 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

Wojcik says he met Rencher while both were recruiting and was very impressed by him.

"He brings a lot to the table for our basketball program," Wojcik says. "He was a great player who played professional basketball for many years and is making the sacrifice to become a coach."

"I'm looking forward to this opportunity at The University of Tulsa," said Rencher. "It's bittersweet emotionally. I'm excited about the possibilities that lie ahead at Tulsa, but at the same time it's hard to leave the people that you've grown to care about. That's the nature of the business. There are times that you have to move on for better or worse, and right now it's for the better. My family and I are really excited about coming to Tulsa and helping the program reach that next phase."
