The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says one inmate is dead after two inmates escaped the Delaware County Jail just before 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Police have released new information in this developing story.

A report indicates the jailer was serving dinner two four inmates inside a jail cell.

Once the jailers opened the door, one of the inmates struck the jailers in the head with a metal pipe from a TV stand, according to OSBI officials.

Devon Martin and 24-year-old Kyle Sutton reportedly stole the keys to the injured jailer's vehicles and fled.

Officers from Delaware County and Jay Police officers stopped the two along Hwy 59 between Jay and Kansas, OK, at the Eucha Bridge.

Officials say there was a pistol in the jailer's vehicle, and one of the inmates began shooting at pursuing officers.

The deputies fired back, hitting Martin in the upper torso and flattening the car's tires.

Officers say the two pulled over, and that's when Martin said he was not going to prison, then shot himself in the head.

Sutton was booked into the Mayes County Jail.

Eucha-native Martin was originally in jail for a first degree homicide charge in February of 2011.

Sutton is from Pryor, and he was booked on drug-related offenses in November 2010.

The two injured jailers were transported to a Joplin hospital for treatment.
