When it comes to dynamite football duos or trios, the state's football teams are among the nation's elite.
Oklahoma has not one, but two trios on the list, which was released earlier this week and contains 48 prolific combos.
On offense, the Sooners feature the triplets of quarterback Landry Jones and receivers Ryan Broyles and Kenny Stills. Defensively, the trio consists of linebackers Tom Wort and Travis Lewis and defensive back Tony Jefferson.
Oklahoma State has the offensive juggernaut in quarterback Brandon Weeden and Biletnikoff Award winning receiver Justin Blackmon.
Tulsa's duo is quarterback GJ Kinne and receiver/returner Damaris Johnson.
The Pony Express Award is in its inaugural season and is the brain child of former SMU running backs Craig James and Eric Dickerson, who were known as the Pony Express when they collaborated in the backfield with the Mustangs in the early 1980s.
The award recognizes tandems of two and three players from the same teams and will be handed out at the end of the 2011 season.
