Former TU Back Charles Clay Cutting Grass To Offset Lockout?

A report in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel says former University of Tulsa standout Charles Clay is doing what he can to keep some money coming in while he waits for the NFL lockout to end.

Clay, who was picked by the Miami Dolphins in the sixth round of April's NFL Draft, is apparently mowing grass and other odd jobs to help pay the bills since he can't earn an NFL paycheck until the lockout is over.

"It's hard times right now," he told the Sun-Sentinels' Omar Kelly. "I'm working little small jobs and things to get money. Not getting an income right now is tough, especially when I'm trying to have a facility to work out in and have to pay for things like (trainers)."

That doesn't mean Clay is for hire for just anyone. Clay is working for a company called LPD, cutting grass around oil wells and other oilfield-related jobs.

In fact, he's had to explain that to people.

"I'm not going around doing people yards," he said on his Twitter account (@cclay9). "I figured people wud think that's what I was doin'".

Clay did a little bit of everything for the Golden Hurricane -- catching 43 passes for 526 yards and seven touchdowns and rushing for 226 yards as a senior.

He finished his career with 2,544 yards receiving and 28 touchdowns and his 38 total touchdowns were just one shy of tying the school's career mark, currently held by Tarrion Adams.
