Thunder's Collison Recognized As KU's Player of the Decade

Posted: Updated:

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Nick Collison is getting some love from his alma mater.

Collison, who played at the University of Kansas from 2000 to 2003, was named KUSports.com's Player of the Decade for the 2000s in a vote of fans.

Collison received 40-percent of the vote, besting  Kirk Hirsch, Marion Chambers, Brandon Rush and Drew Goo den. Those five players were selected during a six-week bracket vote-down on the site.

Collison helped lead KU to back-to-back Final Four appearances in 2002 and 2003 and ended his career as the Big 12 Conference's all-time leading scorer.

He was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics with the 12th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft and is one of two players on the Oklahoma City Thunder who remain from the team that played in Seattle.

This season, Collison played in 71 regular season games, averaging 4.6 points and 4.5 rebounds. In the playoffs, he increased his averages to 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds in helping the Thunder to the Western Conference Finals.
