Embezzlement charges have been filed against a University of Tulsa football star and his girlfriend, accused of working together to get more than 26-hundred dollars in merchandise from a Tulsa department store.

Wednesday, ,Tulsa County prosecutors filed an embezzlement charge against TU senior Damaris Johnson and his girlfriend, Chamon Jones. They allege the pair worked together to obtain $2,610.67 worth of merchandise from Macy's between August 20th and 25th.

"We reviewed the investigative reports by the Tulsa Police Department and made an objective charging decision based on the evidence presented to our office," said First Assistant District Attorney Doug Drummond.

"Both Mr. Johnson and Ms. Jones have been cooperative with law enforcement during the investigation," Drummond added. "As with any other person charged with a crime, they are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law."

Jones was arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail last week. She has since been released on bond. Johnson has not been arrested in the case.

Johnson is the NCAA's career leader in all-purpose yardage (7,796) and career kickoff return yards (3,417). He led the Golden Hurricane in receptions (57) and yards (872) with four touchdowns last season and also rushed for 560 yards and seven touchdowns.

He was suspended by the team after the allegations against him arose. He's not expected to play when TU begins the season Saturday at top-ranked Oklahoma.
