Academic issues will keep senior defensive back John Flanders on the sideline for the entire 2011 season, the University of Tulsa announced Friday.

Flanders, who had two interceptions and started all 13 games for the Golden Hurricane last season, is seeking a waiver from the NCAA.

He's expected to sit out the season as an academic redshirt and would have one year of eligibility remaining if the waiver is denied.

Tulsa begins the 2011 season Saturday, traveling to Norman to face top-ranked Oklahoma.
