Everything was clicking for the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday at the State Fair of Texas. When that happens, the other team better watch out.
OU was sharp on offense, and dominant on defense in a 55-17 win over rival Texas. QB Landry Jones threw for 367 yards and three touchdowns. He did not throw an interception.
The running game was largely held in check by the 'Horns, but walk-on sensation Dominique Whaley busted a 64 yard run early in the third quarter. That bumped his game total to 83 yards on 13 carries.
WR Ryan Broyles lead all receivers with nine catches for 122 yards and a score. He is now just three receptions away from tying the NCAA's career reception record. WR Kenny Stills also had a big game, grabbing two touchdown passes.
The Texas offense couldn't answer the Sooners for the majority of the game. The Longhorns had scored zero offensive touchdowns when OU's first team left the game. The only touchdown up to that point was a 100 yard kickoff return by Fozzy Whittaker.
Freshman QB David Ash would find fellow-freshman WR Jaxson Shipley for a four-yard score with 2:31 left to play.
QB's Ash and McCoy could not get a rhythm going, thanks to Oklahoma's eight sacks. That total matches a school-record set in 2001 against Baylor.
CB Jamell Flemming lead all tacklers with 13.
Up next for the Sooners is a road game against the Kansas Jayhawks. That game kicks off at 8:15PM.
