Chapel Hill, NC -

A report in the Charlotte News & Observer says the University of North Carolina Board of Trustees has scheduled a 9 a.m. Eastern Time emergency meeting to discuss a contract for a new athletic director.

There is also word of an 11 a.m. ET press conference, which could be held to introduce the new AD.

It comes a day after University of Tulsa Athletic Director Lawrence "Bubba" Cunningham was said to be in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to discuss the opening with the school's search committee.

Cunningham was a no-show Thursday in Tulsa at his monthly Brunch with Bubba, an informal, off-the-record roundtable discussion for local media members.

North Carolina has been seeking a replacement for outgoing athletic director Dick Baddour, who announced in July he would step down.

According to WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina, Cunningham met with UNC officials, including the search committee, on Wednesday.

Cunningham has been athletic director at TU for six years, overseeing the 25-million dollar renovation of H.A. Chapman Stadium and his Golden Hurricane teams have won a Conference USA-best 31 championships over that time.

Cunningham was also thought to be on his way to Kansas last December, but he ended up turning down that job and instead signed an extension to stay at TU.

North Carolina is currently awaiting word on what possible punishment it could receive after allegations of NCAA violations. School officials will meet with the NCAA committee on infractions October 28th to learn their fate.
