Memorial Service Monday For Former TU Football Player
A memorial service will be held Monday morning on the campus of the University of Tulsa for former TU football player Anthony Germany.
Germany died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was just 25 years old.
The memorial service Monday will be held in the sanctuary of Sharp Memorial Chapel. On Wednesday, a service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Peoples Church in Oklahoma City.
Germany was married to former TU women's basketball player Chivis (Merriweather) Germany and is also survived by parents Anthony Sr. and Karon Germany and two siblings, Anntanette and Niko.
Germany played defensive back at TU from 2004 to 2007 and started 36 games. As a senior, he was second on the team in tackles for loss (14) and sacks (3).
In the 2005 Liberty Bowl, Germany had a crucial interception in the fourth quarter that led to the go-ahead touchdown in the Golden Hurricane's 31-24 victory over Fresno State.
Germany signed with TU after a terrific high school career at Putnam City, where he played defensive back and wide receiver, helping lead the team to the Class 6A state semifinals as a senior.
He is the third member of the 2007 football team to pass away within the last eight months. Former offensive lineman Wilson Holloway died in February after a three-year battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma and last month, former linebacker George Clinkscale died after taking part in an unsanctioned boxing match at GUTS Church.
