Oklahoma enters this weekend's game at unbeaten and eighth-ranked Kansas State as a two touchdown favorite. Vegas oddsmakers are likely using the past as an indicator on making the Wildcats such a big underdog at home.
Over the last three seasons following a loss, Oklahoma has rebounded and rebounded big, defeating their opponents by an average score of 45-7. That includes a 27-0 rout of Oklahoma State following a loss at Texas Tech in 2009.
But, those oddsmakers may not be looking at the numbers deep enough. When the loss has come at home, the bounce back has not been as dominant. In 2005 -- the last time OU lost at home to TCU -- the Sooners had to score two late touchdowns to put Tulsa away, 31-15 in Norman.
The only other home loss under Bob Stoops came in 2001 against Oklahoma State. While the following game was more than a month later in the Cotton Bowl, OU again struggled, defeating Arkansas 10-3.
Whatever the issues that surrounded the Oklahoma's 41-38 loss to Texas Tech, the Sooners need to fix them in order to come away from Manhattan with a victory. In three trips to Manhattan under Bob Stoops, the Sooners are a perfect 3-0 and have won each by at least ten points, but none have been as easy as the score has indicated.
Another stat that should give OU fans some hope is that the last time the Sooners lost back-to-back regular season games was 1999 (Notre Dame and Texas).
Saturday's game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN.
