Golden Eagles Suffer Heartbreaker

Posted: Updated:

Scott Sutton's Golden Eagles lose their NIT Tip-off Classic opener against Texas San Antonio, 78-77 in heartbreaking fashion.

Sei Paye made a three at the buzzer.

ORU blew a 46-31 halftime lead.  The Golden Eagles shoot 50 percent from the field.  Oral Roberts had three in double figures led by Steve Roundtree with 22.  Warren Niles had 20 and Dominuque Morrison had 17.

UTSA's leading scorer was Kannon Burrage with 22.  The Roadrunners had four players reach double figures in points.

It was a reunion of sorts at Gallagher-Iba Arena Tuesday night.  Former OSU head coach Sean Sutton, now an assistant on the ORU staff, made his first trip back to the GIA since being forced out in 2008.

UTSA head coach Brooks Thompson was also making his return to Stillwater.  He played for the Cowboys from 1992-1994.

ORU will host Austin Peay at the Mabee Center Saturday at 7:05pm.
