Teenage Driver From Skiatook Killed In Car Crash

Posted: Updated:

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say a 16-year-old driver was killed in a car crash just before 4 a.m. Saturday.  OHP has sent out a corrected age of the driver as 16.  The report originally stated the driver was 14.

An accident report indicates Shakota Nichols from Skiatook was driving a 1999 Toyota 4 Runner on 52nd W Ave just outside Skiatook when he lost control and ran off the road.

The car hit a fence poll and a tree, partially ejecting Nichols out of the passenger window.  The car came to rest on the passenger side, pinning him.

Blake Girdner, 12; Larry Ham, 13; and Jason Westfall, 17 were passengers in the vehicle.  They were not hurt.

Troopers listed the cause of the crash as inexperience.  The report states Nichols was the only one not wearing a seatbelt.
