ORU Women Suffer First Loss

Posted: Updated:

Jordan Pyle scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, but Oral Roberts couldn't overcome a 19-point first-half deficit, falling to Missouri State 85-79 Saturday at the Mabee Center.

ORU (5-1) led 11-10 early before the Bears went on a 31-11 run to lead by 19 on a 3-pointer by Casey Garrison with just under six minutes remaining in the first half.

The lead was still 19 in the second half before Oral Roberts put together a 12-2 run to cut the deficit to single digits.

A Georgia Jones 3-pointer with 37 seconds remaining whittled the lead to four and a turnover gave the ball back to ORU, but Jaci Bigham's 3-point attempt with 27 seconds was off the mark.

Seconds later, Christiana Shorter nailed a pair of free throws to seal the victory for Missouri State.

Pyle was joined in double figures by Kevi Luper with 17 points and Jones with 16. Luper also had five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Shorter led the Bears (2-2) with 27 points and ten rebounds while Garrison added 22 points and eight boards.

Oral Roberts returns to the court Tuesday night in the annual Mayor's Cup game against the University of Tulsa. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. at the Reynolds Center.
