Fitzpatrick Grabs C-USA Special Teams Honor

Posted: Updated:

Tulsa punter/kicker Kevin Fitzpatrick has been named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week after a career day in TU's loss to Houston Friday.

Fitzpatrick gave the Hurricane a 10-6 lead late in the first quarter on a career-long 52-yard field goal. He added a 36-yarder in the third quarter and later tacked on a 51-yard kick to pull Tulsa within four, 20-16.

Houston would score 28 unanswered points in the second half to pull away.

Fitzpatrick also had six punts for an average of 46-point-5 yards per punt, including three that went better than 50 yards -- the longest being career-long 59-yarder.

This season, Fitzpatrick, a senior from Jensen Beach, Florida, is 15-of-17 on field goals and 48-of-50 on extra points and averages 42-point-2 yards per punt.

Tulsa finished the regular season 8-and-4 overall and 7-1 in conference play. They will likely play BYU in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl next month.
