Conference Titles, BCS Bowl Games Not Enough For Sooner Nation

The Sooners are heading into Bedlam with a chance to go to their ninth BCS bowl game under head coach Bob Stoops. But, he's catching a little heat for not making it to the BCS National Championship Game.

Oklahoma enters Saturday's Bedlam battle with two surprising losses. While those losses have knocked OU out of the national championship hunt, they are still playing for a conference championship.

But, that doesn't seem to be good enough anymore. Now, fans are saying it's time for OU to win another national championship, not just a Big 12 one.

Coach Stoops says that, while everyone is entitled to their opinion, he is more than satisfied with the recent success of his program.

"To have played in eight Big 12 championship games and have won seven of them, it's pretty darn special. And let's face it, to be in four national championships, anyone can say what they want, but they don't just pick your name out of a hat and get in those. And to be in eight BCS bowls in eleven years, so whatever. People have their opinions and they are entitled to them."

The opinion of Sooner Nation when it comes to Bedlam is a positive one because OU has dominated its in-state rival in a game that is fueled by a unique emotion.

"They hate us with a passion. And, we hate them with a passion. We do not like those guys and they hate us and I just feel like us going into their stadium and having a chance to beat them and also take a picture in the middle of their stadium is bittersweet and we want to be able to take that picture and celebrate and have fun."

OU has owned the Pokes as of late. A win Saturday would be the Sooners' fifth straight in Stillwater and ninth straight in the series.

Saturday's game kicks off at 7 p.m. and can be seen live on Tulsa's Channel 8.
