Former Oklahoma offensive coordinator and Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach appears to be heading back to the sidelines.
According to the Associated Press, Leach has reached a verbal agreement to become the new head coach of the Washington State Cougars.
Leach was offensive coordinator at the University of Oklahoma in 1999 in Bob Stoops' first season as head coach and was named head coach at Texas Tech a year later.
In ten seasons with the Red Raiders, Leach guided the team to nine bowl appearances, including five victories.
He was fired following the 2009 season after an investigation into alleged inappropriate treatment of Adam James. Leach says he believed his firing was motivated by contract negotiations with the university.
In ten seasons, he was 84-and-43 at Texas Tech.
Washington State announced Tuesday that Paul Wulff would not return as head coach after four seasons and a 9-and-40 record. The Cougars were 4-and-8 in 2011.
