Tangerine treat

Go orange! A recent Canadian study in mice showed that the tiny tangerine may provide your body with more than just a healthy shot of vitamin C. Researchers found that Nobiletin, a flavenoid in the fruit, may help prevent obesity and protect against type 2 diabetes. Put this small but powerful citrus to work for you.

Break Out Breakfast: Top plain yogurt with sunny tangerine slices.

Citrify Your Salad: Make it a burst of color and tart flavors by arranging tangerine wedges on a bed of mixed greens and sprinkling with dried cranberries. Just a little drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar tops it off nicely.

Afternoon Delight: Peel into two small tangerines, only 80 calories total, when you need a low-calorie, sweet snack.

Zest Up Entreés: Make a naturally sweet and tangy sauce when you stuff chicken or fish with tangerine sections, chopped fennel bulb, and diced shallot and roast in the oven.
