What Would Ice Bowl Fans Think?

Stillwater -

There has been talk that some fans with tickets to Saturday's Bedlam game may let Mother Nature keep them home in front of a television instead. It has me thinking -- what would Ice Bowl fans think?

The Ice Bowl was played 26 years ago this week. Freezing rain and sleet pounded fans in attendance, including a pair of fans who literally froze to the metal benches.

So, what's a little rain?

Debbie Snodgrass attended the Ice Bowl. She says rain is nothing compared to sitting through that.

"We froze to death, but we didn't leave until the last little tick of the clock went off," Snodgrass says. "Some students even painted their chests and didn't have their shirts on and they sat through it."

Debbie says she's got tickets to Saturday's game and she's prepared.

"We went and bought my rain gear yesterday and some long underwear, so we're prepared."

It's already bad enough that the stadium won't be full because of the ticket policy that requires fans purchase a season ticket package. If fans don't show up because of a good chance of rain in the forecast, Boone Pickens Stadium will look like a state championship game is going on.

As it stands right now, the forecast for Stillwater looks like this -- temperatures in the mid to upper 40s at kickoff with a chance for rain. The best chances for rain are during the day before kickoff.

There is a 100-percent chance of a great game, so take that into consideration if you're thinking about skipping out on it. The concession stands will have plenty of hot chocolate. Enjoy!

What do you think about fans not attending the game because of rain, let alone ice? Just comment on this story.
