TU Comeback Falls Short Against Arizona State

Posted: Updated:

Carrick Felix's lay-up with 4:54 began a 7-0 run as Arizona State pulled away from TU and held on for a 67-64 victory Saturday at the Reynolds Center.

Tulsa (5-6) fell behind 12-4 early before scoring ten straight to gain its first lead on Steven Idlet's jumper with 9:45 left in the first half. But, the Sun Devils scored eight straight of their own to re-take the lead and would take a 32-30 advantage into the locker room.

Arizona State took a seven-point lead early in the second half before Tulsa again put together a 10-0 run, taking the lead on Scottie Haralson's 3-pointer.

But again, the lead wouldn't last. ASU surged back in front and the last time Tulsa would pull even would be on Tim Pete's 3-pointer with 5:14 remaining.

Twenty seconds later, Felix scored the go-ahead points and moments later, Keala King converted a traditional three-point play to push the lead to 59-54.

The Sun Devils hit just 6-of-12 free throws down the stretch, but Tulsa couldn't get the timely buckets it needed. Eric McClellan's 3-pointer with one second left pulled Tulsa within three, but time ran out on the comeback attempt.

Haralson, McClellan and Jordan Clarkson each had 15 points to lead the Golden Hurricane, which has lost three straight and five of six since a 3-and-0 start.

King led Arizona State (3-4) with 18 points.

Tulsa will return to action Wednesday at home against Wichita State.
