A Mississippi newspaper says Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Todd Monken is high on the list for filling the vacant head coaching job at Southern Miss.
The Hattiesburg American reports Monken is among several who are high on the Golden Eagles' list to take over the reigns of the Conference USA champions.
Others on the list include USM offensive coordinator Blake Anderson and Louisiana-Lafayette offensive coordinator Jay Johnson, who were said to have interviewed for the job earlier this week.
Monken has been rumored for several vacancies after helping lead Oklahoma State's offense to top five finishes in total yards, scoring and first downs in 2011.
It wouldn't be the first time Southern Miss has turned to Stillwater for a head coach. In 2008, the Golden Eagles plucked Larry Fedora, who was recently hired by North Carolina.
Fedora was also an offensive coordinator at OSU prior to becoming a head coach.
Oklahoma State is 11-and-1 and will play in the Fiesta Bowl against Stanford on January second.
