The John 3:16 Christmas Store is enough to make mom's like Doris Doyle gush. The room full of toys, clothes and anything else that might make a kid's wish list is a chance to play Santa, something a lot of parents normally couldn't afford to do. " Wow, I don't even want to think about if it wasn't around. This is the opportunity for any working parent. I work, and this really helps," Doyle told Tulsa's Channel 8.
Everything in the store is brand new and a bargain. Items are priced right so that people in need can make the perfect purchase. Sunday's best is just a couple of dollars and things like skate boards are only $4. "They may not have enough to go buy it at Walmart or at the mall like other people might. They might have come across some tough times, but they're able to buy it at a reduced price," said Steven Whitaker with John 3:16. He says there's pride in receiving a hand up instead of a hand out during the Christmas holiday. "We believe that Christmas is so special that there's an intrinsic dignity that comes along with people being able to provide Christmas for their own families," explained Whitaker. Volunteers will even gift wrap it for them.
Doris' is delighted. It's her third year shopping at the store. She's grateful for another opportunity to provide for those she loves most. "It's a parent's dream. It's a parent's dream," she beamed.
John 3:16 says it helped more than 70 families during the three day event.
