Oklahoma State's top golfer is going pro.
Peter Uihlein, who was a member of the victorious 2009 Walker Cup, the 2010 U.S. Amateur champion and helped lead the Cowboys to an NCAA championship match appearance in 2010, is expected to make his professional debut next month, GolfWeek reports.
The 22-year-old from Orlando, Florida, has done just about everything you can do as an amateur, including winning the U.S. Amateur in 2010, winning the Sahalee Players Championship, topping the amateur golf ranks and earning the coveted Ben Hogan Award.
The report says Uihlein is expected to sign with Chubby Chandler's ISM group and play on a sponsor exemption on the European Tour's Abu Dhabi event January 26th through 29th.
Uihlein tells GolfWeek his decision is a bittersweet one.
"I have a pretty good family at Oklahoma State," he told the publication. "They were so good to me and I tried my best to contribute to the program there."
