It's been a yearly tradition in one Broken Arrow neighborhood, hundreds of onlookers stopping to look, listen and wonder in amazement at the holiday spectacle that homeowner Damon Green has created in his front yard.
Six years ago, Green decided to take his annual Christmas display to the next level. He says, after driving around with his family one night looking at other folks' light displays he saw a house that caught his eye, one that had a light display synced to Christmas music. So after a little research, Green decided to take the idea and improve upon it.
Green's display is "homemade." He says he had to build the circuits by himself. The display contains over 50,000 lights synced up to a soundtrack that passersby can listen to on their car stereo. Green says in order to get everything synced up, he'll spend at least an hour for every minute of music, programming the various light sequences.
And you would think anything with 50,000 lights would run up a hefty holiday power bill. However, Green tells us because his lights are "not on all the time" and flash, his bill on average only goes up about "twenty to twenty-five dollars."
So, what will he do to improve on his display for next year? Green says he'll possibly be adding some high tech LED lights that can individually change color.
Folks wanting to view the display can do so between now and New Years Eve. Hours and directions are available on Green's website at www.tulsalightshow.com.
