Authorities in Adair County are investigating a "brutal homicide" that occurred Christmas Eve, outside of Stilwell.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Jessica Brown tells KTUL.com, the victim is identified as 88 year-old Vergie Murphy. She says local authorities received a 911 call from Murphy's residence around 1:30, Saturday Morning. When Adair County Sheriff's deputies arrived, they found Murphy's body.
Also inside the home at the time, was 21 year-old Tonya Watie. Deputies arrested Watie and booked her on one count of first degree burglary and one count of first degree murder.
The OSBI is assisting the Adair County Sheriff's Department in their investigation. Sheriff Austin Young told KTUL.com that the official cause of death and motive has not been determined. Young also said they're searching for other persons of interest in this case.
