Late Rally Falls Just Short As Cowboys Fall To Va. Tech

Posted: Updated:

Oklahoma State rallied from a late 10-point second half deficit to tie, but could never get the lead, falling to Virginia Tech 67-61 Saturday at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater.

The Cowboys (7-6) trailed 61-51 with five minutes remaining when Cezar Guerrero buried a 3-pointer to spark the run. OSU knotted the game on Brian Williams' 3-pointer with just over two minutes to play.

But, the Pokes missed their last four field goal attempts -- all three-pointers -- and Virginia Tech hit all six of their free throw shots to put the game away.

The game was full of scoring runs. In addition to OSU's 10-0 spurt, Virginia Tech scored 11 straight early to lead 11-to-3. Oklahoma State responded with a 10-2 run to start the second half, but the Hokies came right back with another 11-0 run to lead by nine.

Keiton Page led Oklahoma State with 21 points, including 5-of-14 from three point range. Williams added 14 off the bench.

Virginia Tech (11-3) was led by Dorenzo Hudson's 18-point effort while Erick Green added 16.

Oklahoma State was out-rebounded 47-24, including 16-6 on the offensive glass, and was outscored 15-7 at the free throw line.

The loss ends OSU's 37-game homecourt win streak against non-conference opponents. They'll return to action Wednesday, beginning Big 12 Conference play against Texas Tech in Stillwater.
