Local repair shop joins fight to 'Save Veronica'

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Perhaps you've seen the signs: 'Save Veronica.'  But do you know who Veronica is?

She's a 2-year-old girl in the middle of a bitter custody battle between her adoptive parents on James Island and her biological father in Oklahoma.

Doug Clarke manages the Glass Pro Pit Stop on Highway 17.  He's also friends with the Capobiancos, Veronica's adoptive parents.

"Obviously, our prayers have been with them," he said.

Prayers are because the little girl was taken away from the only parents she's ever known six days ago. She was placed in a car with her biological father and traveled hundreds of miles away.

Clarke said friends of the Capobiancos have been scrambling to help the family in any way they can. So Clarke took to his business.

"We were in the morning routine of changing our signs out and I decided that was  the best sign for the day."

The sign simply reads 'Save Veronica.' Clark said 40,000 drive by that sign each day.

Through social networking, it's had an incredible response.

"If a sign attracts attention, gets signatures, its doing its job," he said.
