Tulsa -
A new high-tech aircraft developed by a Tulsa company could soon take to the skies to support law enforcement, border protection and public safety.
The aircraft was designed by Echo Flight Resources, LLC. Roger Crow, a Reserve Deputy for the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office who has served since 1982, including eight years in air support operations, founded the company in 2010 and had been leading the effort to aid police agencies who were having to ground their air support units due to the rising costs associated with it.
Echo partnered with German company Flight Design as well as Tulsa-based Airtime Aviation, to create the airplane, which can fly at speeds of up to 140 miles per hour and as slow as 45 miles per hour, allowing it to conduct aerial searches for suspects on the ground -- all at a cost of about 38 dollars per hour -- less than ten percent of what a typical law enforcement helicopter costs.
A public unveiling of the aircraft is planned for Thursday afternoon at the Tulsa Tech campus near Jones Riverside Airport in south Tulsa.
Crow says as development continues on the aircraft, he is happy to donate the use of the aircraft, the operating cost and his time to fly for the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office and surrounding agencies. He is also training full-time deputies the skills needed as an airborne mission control officer and camera systems operations.
