The University of Tulsa men's basketball team picked up its first win in Conference USA play as the Golden Hurricane defeated UTEP 59-48 Wednesday night in front of 4,017 fans at Donald W. Reynolds Center.
TU (8-9, 1-2 C-USA) received 14-point efforts from both sophomore forward Kodi Maduka and freshman guard Eric McClellan, and Michael Perez led UTEP (8-9, 1-2 C-USA) with 14 points for the road team.
Maduka also had seven rebounds to lead the Golden Hurricane, and sophomore guard Jordan Clarkson added 10 points for the home team. Senior center Steven Idlet and junior guard Scottie Haralson both contributed eight points.
TU was able to close the door on UTEP late, ending the game on an 18-8 run, which included a final 13-3 run in the last 6:51 of action.
The Golden Hurricane will return to action at 12 noon (CT) this Saturday, Jan. 14 in Greenville, North Carolina against the East Carolina Pirates.
