Parents have to think of so many things when it comes to allowing people to watch their children. Now you have to worry about if the baby sitter is on the computer and what they are posting online. Come to find out, almost every electronic device in your homes can be tracked online by someone.
"A lot of people aren't aware that there are things on their kids devices they buy them toys and they aren't aware that there is an online capability that the kids can get online and track where they are at people can see that," says Sarah Davis with Seeking Sitters.
As a parent you want to make sure when you leave your child with someone else they know what you expect and some parents say it's not hard to ask your sitter to resist the lure of technology while in your home.
"I certainly don't want them texting their friends, or talking on the phone, or playing on the computer, facebooking, when they should be watching my child," says mother Lindley Welch.
Experts say you have to arm yourself with the knowledge.
"When you tweet or tag yourself on Facebook it tags the exact location of where you are at and anyone can find that," says Davis.
So what can you do to make sure your home and children are safe when you're away?
"Never tag where you are at. Don't allow people to know where you are at on a babysitting event or anything that you do cause they can track the location. The other thing is don't post names of the children that you are with the names or photos," says Davis.
Posting photos and tweeting locations can be the most nerve racking for parents, who already may be on edge about someone else watching their kids.
"If your child is in the park with the sitter and they tweet, hey I'm in Woodward Park with Charlie somebody could be watching that and see that just know that they are there and vulnerable the parents aren't around. So it's amazing the things you need to worry about," says Welch.
Welch says she just found out her sons new game console has a GPS tracking device. So her best advice is just look through all your kids devices and make sure you are safe.
