Oologah Man Busted Illegal Kennel & Vet Practices

Posted: Updated:

An Oologah man is arrested after illegally obtaining veterinarian medications and cropping the ears off of Pit Bulls.

Wednesday afternoon Rogers County Sheriff deputies, Oologah police and state officials rescued about 10 dogs from a residence. The investigation led to a property in Oologah when investigators realized his practice was widespread and included Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.

"You've got an unschooled amateur practicing a professional service," says Sheriff Scott Walton with Rogers County.

An investigation led by the Veterinarian Board of Oklahoma brought officials to this man, Steven Yeubanks. A search warrant was requested after investigators found Yeubanks obtaining fraudulent sedation prescriptions out of state.

"They knew at that time that he was using it for the medication of these animals," says Walton.

Sheriff Walton says Yeubanks was using the drugs while he was surgically cropping ears on several pit bull dogs which is purely for cosmetic reasons. The search warrant led the team to a makeshift kennel in the Yeubanks' garage and stolen property, which Walton says Yeubanks received as trade for his illegal services.

Sheriff Walton says you never know where this kind of illegal work is going on.

"It's not obvious to anybody here from roadside," says Walton.

"I mean it's kind of, it's kind of frightening," says neighbor Barbara Boren.

She lives within walking distance from the illegal kennel.

"Everybody knows almost everybody," says Boren, or so she thought.

She says she's never even seen Yeubanks or his dogs. Her backyard is filled with pups, two Dachshunds and a Lab. She was glad for their sake the Pit Bulls never came around.

"The Dachshunds, they'd have them as a snack," says Boren.

Now she wonders if she has to be a nosy Nancy around her neighbors.

"Be more aware of hey did you see something that went on down the street and be more on to alerting neighbors," says Boren.

The police are now working on getting in touch with the owners of the property that was stolen. Yeubanks is also facing 12 ordinance violations on top of his charges. The violations include breaking kennel laws and too many dogs on his property.
