Venables Introduced As New Clemson D-Coordinator

Columbia, SC -

A press conference was held this afternoon as Clemson University introduced former OU defensive coordinator Brent Venables as its defensive leader.

Venables, who spent the past 13 seasons at OU, confirmed Thursday he was leaving the Sooners for Clemson, replacing Kevin Steele, who was let go after the Tigers allowed 70 points in a loss to West Virginia in the Orange Bowl.

The move also came less than a week after news that Mike Stoops, the brother of OU head coach Bob Stoops, would return to the coaching staff in Norman, likely as co-defensive coordinator.

Mike Stoops was co-defensive coordinator with Venables at OU until taking the head coaching job at Arizona in 2003. He was fired in October after a 1-and-5 start.
