TGOV Content Up For Debate

Posted: Updated:

Its programming isn't know for grabbing big ratings, nevertheless the TGOV audience is a passionate crowd.

"It is astounding that somebody's thinking about turning the lights off at city government, and it shouldn't happen," said Greg Bledsoe.

On the TGOV committee agenda Monday, an item to discuss, "Whether or not to continue broadcasting meetings of Authorities, Boards, and Committees..."

"This is America, this is not Russia where the media is controlled by the government," said Bledsoe.

"If anything we need to open up more TGOV time and go more boards and authorities," said former Tulsa city councilor Bill Christiansen.

Where did this discussion on TGOV content originate?

"It's my understanding that the administration is the one pushing this," said Christiansen.

The mayor's administration told News Channel 8, they're all for transparency but that concern arose when the Transportation Advisory Committee suddenly appeared on TGOV without going through the process of appearing before the TGOV committee, and that the administration wants to make sure everybody follows the same process.

I'm just kind of dumbfounded as to why we're even having this discussion" said Tulsa city councilor GT Bynum. For him. the more TGOV content, the merrier.

"Until we reach a point where all of the programming time on TGOV is taken up I don't see why we would be looking at limiting the amount of coverage we give to authorities, boards, and commissions, if we have the capability of broadcasting them," he said.
